Slipped Epiphysis

A Slipped Epiphysis occurs most of the time in growing children, usually between 8 years old to the late teenage years. A slipped capital femoral epiphysis takes place when the tip of the hip falls off the growth plate causing it to not fit in the hip socket correctly. Gone uncorrected, a slipped epiphysis can lead to degenative arthritis causing further problems. Arthritic problems usually take place during a sudden growth period. It is more common among obese children.

In cases of Slipped Epiphsys, the patient usually requires replacement of the hip joint, correcting the deformoties.
