The hip joint is a living tissue and performs maintenence on itself as time goes by. This is taken into account when an osteotomy is performed. Instead of replacing the entire joint with prosthetic implants, an osteotomy cuts down the bone so that is will fit and funciton better within the acetabulum causing less pain. This procedure is an excellent alternative for younger patients due to the fact that the healing capabilities of the body are stronger than that in an older patient. The body has the ability to naturally conform to the change in bone structure allowing for a more natural alternative to total hip replacement surgery.
