Participating in Research Studies

Participation in a research study for Illinois Bone and Joint Institute will aid in the continuing education and advancement of total hip replacement. Participation in any research study is volunteer in nature. If you are interested in participating in any of our Current Research Studies, please Contact Us.

Surgeons from Illinois Bone & Joint Institute are affiliated with Northwestern University Medical School and large teaching hospitals like Evanston and Glenbrook Hospitals. Some of the surgeons also have teaching resposibilites at the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. These relationships offer you, as a patient, superior quality care. They also afford you a unique opportunity. By participating in research studies, you can be involved in a meaningful way in improving care for others who follow you in having their joints replaced.

If you are a patient of Illinois Bone and Joint Institute, your patient experience is included in our database with all confidentiality preserved. We use aggregate or group analysis to determine the effectiveness of the care you received. We also look at the processes used to deliver that care in order to improve.

Occasionally it is more appropriate to investigate an intervention or protocol in a formal research study. All such research is submitted to an Institutional Review Board to protect patients' rights. Qualified investigators, including your surgeon may be involved in conducting these studies.

When a research study has been approved you may be asked to participate. The study will be fully explained to you and you will be asked to sign a consent. You will receive a copy of that consent.

Please Contact Us with any questions you may have about research studies.
